Hermann discusses the distribution of Sloane’s books, the book market, and Holland’s book-selling laws. She writes ‘it is the costum in holland that all booksellers set against a book which the [sic] have not print them self so that I am perswathet I have by your direction meet with the best market in Engeland’. Anna Hermann was the wife of Leiden-based physician and botanist Paul Hermann (1646-1695) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Hermann).
