Transcription
Burnet last wrote Sloane to thank him for putting Sir Thomas Cross and Sir John Eyles in his service. ‘The Royall George is not arrived as yett’, though preparations are being made at port for the ship’s arrival. Burnet claims that he once saved Grillo’s life as well as that of ‘Our New Governours’. An engineer friend of Burnet’s had sent Edmond Halley a quadrant and some observations, but the latter never replied. He hopes a response will come while they are on the Royal George. Burnet requests that Sloane send him medicines from Jamaica with an invoice. John Burnet worked for the South Sea Company in the West Indies and later served as the Physician to King Philip V of Spain.
