Stack greets Sloane with two poems; one in Latin, the other in English. He claims to have been educated in languages, philosophy, physics, anatomy, and medicine among other subjects. He attended the Faculty of Medicine in Paris and wanted to become a practicing physician. He praises Sloane’s contributions to medicine and natural history. Thomas Stack (d. 1756) was a physician. He authored several articles in the Philosophical Transaction and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1738 (https://collections.royalsociety.org/DServe.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Show.tcl&dsqDb=Persons&dsqPos=0&dsqSearch=%28Surname%3D%27stack%27%29).
