Ruysch thanks Sloane for his book on Jamaica. He sends some anatomical descriptions and asks Sloane to send him information or samples of plants and insects, especially those from Jamaica. Frederik Ruysch was a Dutch botanist and anatomist who came to prominence for his study of the lymphatic system. He preserved many of his anatomical specimens, some of which were human, and his collection of curiosities was visited by the likes of Peter the Great (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederik_Ruysch).
