Transcription
The letter Sloane sent with Mangold was delivered by De Lorme, as Mangold had to travel to Holland. Bignon has been ill and has not been able to send his comments on the elephant teeth and shells. He requests copies of the Philosophical Transactions, but asks that Sloane wait to send them. The war makes it difficult for Bignon to pay for them. Jean-Paul Bignon (1662-1743) was a clergyman, librarian to Louis XIV, member of the Academie francaise, and mentor of Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Paul_Bignon).
