Gondwood Octr 27th 1734 Sir, There was a considerable Earth quake, for this climate, on Fryday the 25th instant at half an hour after three in the morning, at Chichester. I am collecting all the particulars of it that I can, I will bring them to the society with me on Thursday next I am Dear Sir, Your faithfull humble servant Richmond

Charles Lennox (1701-1750), 2nd Duke of Richmond, 2nd Duke of Lennox, was a politician and sportsman. In 1724 he was appointed aide-de-camp to George I and later worked for George II. Lennox was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1724 (Timothy J.
