Kirke travelled to a nitrous spring to examine its waters. He and his chemist took samples with which they experimented. Any discoveries will be forwarded to the Royal Society. Kirke writes of the undertaking in some detail. Thomas Kirke (1650-1706) was an antiquary and topographer.
