Sherard informs Sloane that Dr Bernard’s library is to be put to auction. Monsignor Campini has died. The latter’s library and estate were willed to Clementine College. Sherard briefly discusses classical authors Strabo and Ptolemy. He includes a list of the books he has purchased for Sloane and those he can procure if Sloane wishes. Sherard was a botanist and cataloguer. He worked for the Turkish Company at Smyrna where he collected botanical specimens and antiques (D. E.
