Teale saw Major Gower. They exchanged words and Gower gave him something to pass on to Sloane. Teale asks Sloane to pay him a visit when he is nearby. Isaac Teale (d. 1712) was apothecary-general to the army and supervised, along with the army’s physician-general Thomas Lawrence (1655-1714), the provision of medical services during Marlborough’s campaigns in the Netherlands throughout the War of the Spanish Succession (A. A. Hanham, ‘Marlborough’s staff (act. 1702–1711)’, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press. [http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/theme/95324, accessed 16 July 2014]).
