Transcription
Hotton has sent a dissertation on the plant ‘Ceylonensibus Ahmella’ to the Royal Society to be published in the Philosophical Transactions. He requests that Sloane purchase twelve English volumes on botany for him. He gives instructions on how he wants the volumes bound. Hotton suggests that Nicolaus Staphorst may be able to get the books to him through his brother living in Rotterdam. He asks for a copy of Ray’s ‘Historia Plantarum’. Peter Hotton (1648-1709), also known as Petrus Houttuyn, was Professor of Botany and Medicine at Leiden University. He supervised the university’s botanic gardens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrus_Houttuyn).
