Hotton is relieved to hear that John Ray is well and congratulates Sloane on becoming one of Queen Anne’s physicians. He is eager to see Sloane’s Jamaican work and offers to see to the publication of a catalogue of Sloane’s library. Hotton sends a letter of introduction from Tournefort for the sons of a physician named Zavateri who are coming to England. He includes a list of recently published books on botany and medicine by Baglivi, Valsalva, Tozzi, Guglielmini, Schelhammer, and Ariosti. Peter Hotton (1648-1709), also known as Petrus Houttuyn, was Professor of Botany and Medicine at Leiden University.
