Transcription
Hotton regrets that John Ray has died. He urges Sloane to see to the publication of Ray’s work on insects and fish. He sends his thanks to Petiver for sending the third and fourth part of his ‘Gazophylacium’. Hotton is corresponding with Vaillant, Petiver, Fagon, and De Beaumont. He instructs Sloane on how to dispose of the money sent for catalogues and books. He wants two books in particular: one by Raymund Vieussens on anatomy and another by Henricus Snellen on medicine. Peter Hotton (1648-1709), also known as Petrus Houttuyn, was Professor of Botany and Medicine at Leiden University. He supervised the university’s botanic gardens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrus_Houttuyn).
