Transcription
Hotton received the Philosophical Transactions and Scheuchzer’s ‘Itinera’. He asks Sloane to procure a copy of Edward Lhwyd’s book on fossils for him, the ‘Lithophylacii britannici ichnographia’. Hotton has not had a chance to send Bayer’s book on fossils. Gunther Schelhammer is writing a dissertation on natron in Amsterdam. Peter Hotton (1648-1709), also known as Petrus Houttuyn, was Professor of Botany and Medicine at Leiden University. He supervised the university’s botanic gardens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrus_Houttuyn).
