Transcription
Steigertahl discusses a bird he sent Sloane. Blasins and Valentini studied its anatomy. Lord and Lady Townshend are well, as are their newborn children. The King did not hunt yesterday. Steigertahl will soon receive a catalogue from Dr Winkelman. Copies of the book are to be sent to Mr Bateman, a librarian, and ‘Pater noster Row’. Sloane is to inform Steigertahl of any friends who would like a copy. There have been problems with the printing of the book. Dr Mentzer has served as the King’s chaplain in Hanover since Mr Scheuchzer resigned from the post. Johann Georg Steigertahl (1666-1740) was the personal physician to George I of England. He was a member of the Royal Society and secured the purchase of Engelbert Kaempfer’s collection of East Asian curiosities for Sir Hans Sloane in 1723 (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Georg_Steigerthal).
