Kirke is unable to meet Sloane at Gresham College, for an uncle of his ‘is fal’n very dangerously ill’. The uncle is ‘the Author of that small tract I showed you about the soul in answer to Dr Bentley’. He promises Sloane to serve him in any case and will continue to work on examining spring waters. Thomas Kirke (1650-1706) was an antiquary and topographer.
