[fol. 141] Dearest Sr Univ. Coll. Oct. 22. 98. I gave Mr Pepys our very excellent Friend, lately an Account of some occurrences here, to which I must referre you. I am very desirous you should make what use you please of our Indian MSS, and have accordingly here inclosed a Copy of the letter sent to me from Fort St George. It seems to me very proper to desire the Favour of you to publish an account of them in the Transactions, that so the Learned world may know what we have of this nature. I will order Mr Wanly to draw up some Account for you of our Catalogue of MSS, that may both explain and recommend it to the Curious of all Qualitys and Professions. I had almost forgot to acquaint you, that the 8th of November being our Public Day of the Anniversary Visitation of the Bodleian Library, it would be very convenient I should then deliver the Indian MSS, to the Vice Chancellor & Curators. Perhaps Mr Cransford may be willing to procure the Letter from Fort St George. I am not yet at Leisure to make my acknowledgments to you in due Forme for your many most agreeable Civilitys, never to be forgotten by Sir Your most truly affectionate Humble Servant A Charlett I give you many Thanks for your Regard to Mr Isted, who is very deare to me. How does Dr Bernards Auction go on?

Charlett was elected Master of University College at Oxford in 1692 and held that post until his death in 1722. Charlett used the mastership to gain influence, especially through persistent letter-writing to numerous correspondents, sharing the latest literary, political, and scholarly gossip (R. H.
