Hyde thanks Sloane for his donation to Oxford’s public library. He informs Sloane that the donation is now under Hyde’s custodianship. Hyde asks Sloane to present his service to his wife and Dr Hicks. Hyde was the librarian of the Bodleian Library from 1665 to 1701. He possessed excellent linguistic skills in eastern languages, especially ancient Persian and Arabic (P. J.
