Name: N/A Mary Somerset (nee Sackville), Duchess of Beaufort
    Gender:
    Age:
  • Description
  • Diagnosis

Hysterical condition; intermissions of the pulse; lowness of spirit; hysteric colic with inclinations to vomit; disorderly motions in the abdomen.

  • Treatment
    Previous Treatment:

Somerset had been taking Bristol water.

    Ongoing Treatment:

As the disorder grows worse - it is now during the day in addition to at night - Regnart has given her a purgative, ass's milk, and will give her a dose of laudanum.

    Response:

The Bristol water helped, but it caused 'considerable disturbances' that renewed the disorder. She refused to drink more. Regnart proposed rhubarb and ass's milk, but 'the continuance of disturbances of mind hindered these remedies from any good effect.'
