Transcription
Smith offers his service as thanks for Sloane’s favours. He describes a curious shrub not described by Ray or any others. He includes some verses of poetry he just finished transcribing, discusses a nearby coin collector, Madam Mordant, as well as the ruins of a castle. Smith’s parishioners are a ‘wretched poor lot’ and he has no one to converse with. Further, he is ‘buried alive’ with work, while two nearby churches lay empty. Smith asks Sloane to mention them to anyone who might be interested. Elisha Smith was a Lecturer at Wisbech and Rector of Tydd St Giles, Lincolnshire.
