Transcription
Hotton was away for a time due to an illness. As a result, he has not sent several months worth of catalogues. He sends a book and includes a list of recently published works. Hotton writes of his correspondence with Vaillant and Petiver, begun in Sloane MS 4040 ff. 49-50. He laments the death of John Ray and asks Sloane to give his respects to Aglionby. Peter Hotton (1648-1709), also known as Petrus Houttuyn, was Professor of Botany and Medicine at Leiden University. He supervised the university’s botanic gardens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrus_Houttuyn).
