Hotton updates Sloane on concerns raised in their previous letters. He has more information on the works of Tournefort, as per the query in MS 4039 ff. 91-92, including something concerning Mr Sherard. He informs Sloane that someone is preparing an index of plants that may slightly contradict his own work on ‘Ahmella Ceylonensibus’. Peter Hotton (1648-1709), also known as Petrus Houttuyn, was Professor of Botany and Medicine at Leiden University. He supervised the university’s botanic gardens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrus_Houttuyn).
