Transcription
Geoffroy asks Sloane if he thinks Lord Pembroke would be interested in being named foreign correspondent for the Academie des sciences. He would like to know if Sloane received the books Geoffroy sent. There is a rumour that Cowper has died and he asks whether it is true. Bourdelin, La Duchesse, and La Dauphine have died. Etienne Francois Geoffroy (1672-1731) was an apothecary and physician who studied at Montpellier, like Sloane, and worked at the Jardin du Roi and College Royal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etienne_Francois_Geoffroy).
