Cassini recommends De Louville to Sloane and the Royal Society. De Louville is distinguished by birth and personal merit. There was a viewing of ‘l’Eclipse Totale du Soleil’, which Cassini claims to have been ‘un spectacle bien singulier pour un Astronome’. He thanks Sloane for sending the materials. Jacques Cassini (1677-1756) was a French astronomer, the son of Italian astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini. He was made a a member of the Academie des sciences at 17 and elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1696 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Cassini).
