Burnet offers his condolences to Sloane, having just heard of his wife Elizabeth’s passing. He thanks Sloane for sending the books, but he has not yet received them. Burnet is frustrated that his enemies are continually trying to damage his reputation and career. He thanks Sloane for his advice and support. John Burnet worked for the South Sea Company in the West Indies and later served as the Physician to King Philip V of Spain.
