Reid received Sloane’s last letter. Mr Elletson has since been to London. Reid solicits Sloane’s advice on how to defend himself against the prosecution described in Sloane MS 4036, ff. 100-101. He describes the stress he is under as a result and that his patience is being tried. A host of distempers is afflicting Jamaica’s inhabitants and ‘continue among the seamen especially’. Sir Richard Dereham died last February. Mrs Beckford was buried yesterday. Reid’s lord died, as had Parson Longbarth and Mr Hanson.
