Aglionby was glad to receive Sloane’s last letter and is pleased not to have been forgotten by him. He writes of some plants and herbs he found ‘most curious’ and promises to collects seeds. Aglionby is corresponding with the author of a history of India. He writes of an interesting map that is for sale for ‘a shilling & 18p’ and some books he is trying to procure. Aglionby describes the ‘seasons and weather’ in Spain. Some seeds are enclosed with the letter. He states the orange trees in Spain are beautiful and details the ‘hott bed[s]’ used to grow them. Aglionby speculates as to whether orange trees would grow in England. William Aglionby (c. 1642-1705) was a diplomat and physician. He worked in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France, and Switzerland. Aglionby was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1667 (https://collections.royalsociety.org/DServe.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Show.tcl&dsqDb=Persons&dsqPos=0&dsqSearch=%28Surname%3D%27aglionby%27%29).
