Sherard recommends the bearer, Dr Connor, to Sloane. He asks Sloane to acquaint Connor with members of the Royal College of Physician and the Royal Society. Connor ‘came from Poland to Brussells [and was] physitian to ye Electresse of Bavaria & designs to return again to Poland, of wch country he will give you very good memoires’. Connor wants to see ‘Mr Coopers preparations’ particular. Sherard was a botanist and cataloguer. He worked for the Turkish Company at Smyrna where he collected botanical specimens and antiques (D. E.
