Ames writes to Sloane about meeting Mr Holden and Mr Brassy at the African Coffee House. The governor of the Company and Job are also mentioned. Joseph Ames (bap.1687, d.1759) bibliographer and antiquary, elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1743. He was admitted to the Society of antiquaries and contributed to their Thursday meetings. He frequented university libraries as well as those of the members of both societies.
