Orme writes to Sloane praising his promotion of natural knowledge and sends him some materia medica. He mentions that Captain Hutchinson brought Sloane a sampleof Katsjoaele (katsjil) Kelenya of the Hortus Malabaricus inis plant Orme has cultivated. He also talks of considerable quantities of plants exported from Calicut used by arabian physician Cammeli and his use of the root of the contrayrve. Orme mentions different climates and soils and a malabar root and his observations from the hills at Ballasore. He describes the Tellicherry bark as good for lungs, the root of the codaga pala of the Hortus Malabaricus, and the Nangora Pathe (Nantsjeral Patsia) of the Hortus Mallabar which is a safe and efficacious vomit. Captain Hutchinson also brings Orme some that Orme has not yet been able to get a description of or their proper preparation but he hopes to get that information in the year. He offers this information for Sloane’s History of Jamaica and hopes it is new and useful.
