Cummings writes to Sloane asking him to peruse this epistle “from the most unfortunate of her sex Rendered so by the Death of the most indulgent Husband”. She speaks of her late husband, Dr. John Cummings, Minister of Scotch Church in Loathbury who left her with five children and totally destitute. If it had not been for the kindness of some persons. She writes that though she does not expect anything from Sloane in particular, she asks if he knows of a place she could bring her family. Ann Cummings, widow of Presbyterian Minister John Cummings.
