Browne writes to Sloane about a patient with pain in his stomach and bowels from whom 8 oz of blood was taken from his arm on April 26th. His complexion was discoloured and the periods of his fever became certain and fixed with pain on the left. Browne has given 3 or 4 doses everyday of a bark mix. Lately he has had sharp pain, but no fever. He has vomited twice this week, his body opens up with the rhubarb added to the bark. He writes that they began Sloane’s receipt on April the 29th and will try to see if his stomach will bear the Bark. Sir William Browne gained his MD from Cambridge in 1725 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1726. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1739 and knighted in 1748.
