Hearne informs Sloane that Mr Clements paid ‘for the eleven Copies of the 8th Vol. of Lelond’s’ book. He thanks Sloane for his help in publishing it and will forward the ninth volume when it is finished.
Thomas Hearne (bap. 1678, d. 1735) was an antiquary and diarist. He began working at the Bodleian Library in 1701. A nonjuror, his refusal to take an oath of allegiance to King George I led to his dismissal from the Bodleian in 1716. Sibbald informs Sloane of a book auction that is to take place in January. Dr Gordon, ‘well known to [the] Societie’, has a nephew in London who is tasked with delivering a catalogue of the books in the sale to Sloane. Sibbald asks Sloane to send news of recent publications with Mr Knaplock.

Keill assures Sloane that his patient, Mr Fermor (1698-1753), is doing well. Fermor’s father, Lord Leominster (1648-1711), is getting worse.
Keill did not formally attend medical school, but through the patronage of Sloane he obtained the degree of MD from Cambridge.
