Johann Jakob Scheuchzer (1672-1733) was a Swiss scholar and physician. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1703 and his work was published in the Philosophical Transactions. In 1708 his Itinera aplina tira was published in London. It was dedicated to the Royal Society. His largest project was the Itinera per Helvetiae alpines regions facta annis 1702-1711, dedicated to his travels and published in four volumes in 1723 at Leiden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Jakob_Scheuchzer).

Hales requests that Sloane allow ‘the Count de Reiss, Mr Bentenreider, Mr Fabrice Envoy from hosltein, Mr d’Aremberg of hanover, Baron Brandenstein of Presden, & one or two more of their Friends’ to view his cabinet of curiosities. Its fame has made it a necessary stop on any tour of England.

Thomas Short was a Scottish physician who settled in Sheffield. Nicholaes Corneliszoon Witsen (1641-1717) was a politician and collector. He was appointed for thirteen terms as Burgomaster of Amsterdam. He corresponded widely with Leibniz, several Jesuits, and the Royal Society, of which he was elected a fellow in 1689.

Edward Lhwyd (1659/60-1709) was a naturalist and philologist. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1708. Sir Hans Sloane described him as the best naturalist in Europe.
