Pier Antonio Micheli

Pier Antonio Micheli (1679-1737) was a Catholic priest and Italian botanist. He studied under Bruno Tozzi and in 1706 was appointed botanist to Cosimo III de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. Micheli’s Nova plantarum genera was published in 1729 and marked a development in the knowledge of fungi.

Jacob Theodor Klein

Jacob Theodor Klein (1685-1759) was a Royal Prussian jurist, historian, botanist, mathematician, and diplomat who worked for August II, King of Poland. He was Secretary to the Senate of Danzig and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1729.

Paul Jacques Malouin

Paul Jacques Malouin (1701-1777/8) was a French physician and chemist. He entered the Académie des sciences in 1742 and was appointed Professor of Chemistry at the Jardin du Roi in 1745. Malouin was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1753 and in the same year purchased the position of médecin de la reine for 22,000 livres. In 1770 he was made physician to the Dauphin.

Gerhard Friedrich Müller

Gerhard Friedrich Müller (1705-1783) was a German historian and ethnologist. In 1725 he was invited to St Petersburg to establish the Imperial Academy of Sciences. From 1733 to 1743 he travelled across Siberia with other scientists collecting ethnographic information. Müller was elected fellow of the Royal Society in 1730 and a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1761.
