Hotton has received some ‘Ahmella’ seeds. He asks Sloane to inform interested parties in London of this, particularly Sherard. He will send seeds and dried samples of the plant to Sloane as soon as he can. Hotton mentions Scheuchzer’s book proposal again as well as Giorgio Baglivi’s ‘De Fibra Motrice’ (see: MS 4039 ff. 91-92).

Hotton regrets that John Ray has died. He urges Sloane to see to the publication of Ray’s work on insects and fish. He sends his thanks to Petiver for sending the third and fourth part of his ‘Gazophylacium’. Hotton is corresponding with Vaillant, Petiver, Fagon, and De Beaumont. He instructs Sloane on how to dispose of the money sent for catalogues and books. He wants two books in particular: one by Raymund Vieussens on anatomy and another by Henricus Snellen on medicine.

Hotton offers news apropos politics and the Duke of Marlborough. He encloses a catalogue of new books and promises to send Dominico Gulielmini’s book on salts and two small works by Baglivi. Hotton reminds Sloane of a list of six English books that he had asked him to send to Holland. He relays news that Tournefort is still working on his book about his journey to the Levant and hopes to have something published within a year. Langius has sent his book, ‘Historia Lapidimi Figuratorum Helvetiae’, to press. Hotton promises to send a copy of Plumier’s ‘Nova plantarum americanarum genera’ to Petiver. He sends his regards to Tancred Robinson.
