Samuel Kölesérius de Keres-Eer

Samuel Kölesérius de Keres-Eer (1663-1732) was a physician and served as Government Secretary of the Principality of Transylvania. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1729 upon the proposal of Sloane and others.

Charles François de Cisternay du Fay

Charles François de Cisternay du Fay (1698-1739) was a French chemist and Conservateur du Jardin des Plantes à Paris. His research into electricity was published in the Philosophical Transactions in 1734. Du Fay became a member of l’Académie des sciences in 1733.

Jean Louis Petit

Jean Louis Petit (1674-1750) was a Parisian surgeon and inventor of the tourniquet. In 1715 he became a member of l’Académie des sciences and was named director of l’Académie royale de chirurgie when it was founded in 1731.

James Augustus Blondell

James Augustus Blondell (1666-1734) was born in Paris and took his MD at Leyden in 1692. He was admitted a Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians in 1711. Blondell authored two works: ‘The Strength of Imagination of Pregnant Women Examined’ of 1727 and ‘The Power of the Mother’s Imagination over the Foetus Examined’ in 1729.

Domenico Silvio Passionei

Domenico Silvio Passionei (1682-1761) was an Italian Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. Pope Innocent XIII made him Archbishop of Ephesos and between 1730 and 1738 he was Nuncio in Vienna. Passionei served as Librarian of the Vatican.

Joseph de Seytres

Joseph de Seytres, Marquis de Caumont (1688-1745) was a collector of books, manuscripts, medals, and antiquities. He corresponded with Voltaire and contributed to the Journal de Trévoux. He was elected a Member of l’Académie des inscriptions in 1736, a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1740, and a Member of l’Académie des Arcades de Rome in 1743

Antoine De Jussieu

Antoine de Jussieu (1686-1758) was a French naturalist and physician who, like Sloane, studied at Montpellier. He replaced Professor of Botany Joseph Pitton de Tournefort at the Jardin du Roi in Paris when the latter died in 1708. De Jussieu was admitted as a member of l’Academie des sciences in 1711 and was responsible for the introduction of coffee to the Antilles in 1720.
