William Cockburn was a physician who wrote works on the diseases of seamen and published in the Philosophical Transactions. He had a large medical practice and claimed to have a secret remedy for dysentery.

Thomas Tenison was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1694 to his death in 1715. A staunch anti-Catholic, he devoted much time to promoting the Church of England and establishing it as the sole religious institution in England.

Horatio Walpole was a politician, diplomat, and younger brother of Robert Walpole, the first Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He worked closely with his brother and represented several constituencies throughout his career as an MP including Great Yarmouth and Norwich.

George Mackenzie (1630-1714), 1st Earl of Cromarty, was involved in many intellectual pursuits including natural philosophy, geography, history, and theology. He fought on behalf of Charles II, and with the defeat spent time in the highlands of Scotland and on the continent. He returned to England after the Restoration.

Sir Henry Newton was a diplomat who worked extensively in the Italian states. He published several works in Latin while in Italy and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1709.

Wotton was a child prodigy, having received his BA from Oxford at the age of nine. He mastered several languages and fields of inquiry and became a member of the Royal Society in 1687 as well as being ordained in 1689. He published many works on history, theology, culture, and politics and contributed to the Philosophical Transactions
