Hotton thanks Sloane for the generous gift of his Jamaican treatise: ‘Voyage to the islands Madera, Barbados, Nieves, S. Christophers, and Jamaica, with the natural history of the last of those islands’. He will send the other two copies to France when he gets the opportunity. H. Wetsteijn, a bookseller at Amsterdam, is preparing a work on Aurelian by Theodorus Janssonius van Almeloveen, Professor at Harderwijk, in the Netherlands. Wetsteijn wants to know if Sloane, or one of his acquaintances, would like to join with him in publishing it. Peter Hotton (1648-1709), also known as Petrus Houttuyn, was Professor of Botany and Medicine at Leiden University. He supervised the university’s botanic gardens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrus_Houttuyn).
