He lists all of Floyer’s works in his possession. He requests that Sloane send him the new appendix to Samuel Dale’s ‘Pharmacologia’.

Hotton quotes a letter from Scheuchzer. The latter wants to know if his manuscript on his travels in Switzerland will suit the Royal Society or if he should change its style. Tournefort has sent Hotton a copy of his ‘Institutiones Rei Herbariae’, in which he identifies plants by genus instead of species alone. Hotton informs Sloane of the publication of Ramazzini’s ‘De Morbis Artificum’ and Giorgio Baglivi’s ‘De Fibra Motrice’, both of which are medical texts. Rivinus wants his botanical books to be printed in London.

Hotton asks Sloane to purchase publications on the
‘Ahmella Ceylonensibus’ for him. Ramazzini sent him a lecture he gave at Padua last November about simple remedies. Hotton sends a package of books, catalogues, and seeds through John Bannerman, which includes a second package of books and seeds for Tancred Robinson. He is pleased to hear that John Ray’s unpublished work will be printed posthumously. He would like to see someone write a life of Ray. Hotton would like his correspondence with Ray returned. He has not heard from Floyer in some time and hopes he is well.

Bidloo has not heard from the Royal Society for some time. He would like a correspondence with the organization and its members.
Govard Bidloo (1649-1713) was a predominant Dutch physician whose research focussed primarily on anatomy research. He was a professor of anatomy at The Hague giving lectures on anatomical dissection before he became the professor of anatomy and surgery at Leiden in 1694. He became a fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1696. He was the physician of William III, King of England, who died in his arms in 1702. His most famous publication is Anatomia Humani Corporis (1685) illustrated by Gerard de Lairesse featuring images and notes of living and dissected human figures. Hotton writes of his correspondence with Vaillant and Petiver, begun in Sloane MS 4040 ff. 49-50. He laments the death of John Ray and asks Sloane to give his respects to Aglionby.
