Hotton discusses the monument to be dedicated to the late John Ray. He received a book about fossils in Nuremberg by John Jacob Baier. Tournefort is convalescing after an illness and working on a book about his trip to the Levant, the ‘Historia Peregrinationis Suborientalis’. Tournefort and Geoffroy received their copies of Sloane’s book on Jamaica.
Peter Hotton (1648-1709), also known as Petrus Houttuyn, was Professor of Botany and Medicine at Leiden University. He supervised the university’s botanic gardens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrus_Houttuyn).

She has sent a number of plants and drafts from Ceylon to Mr Sherard ‘in March Lane’. She hints at Sloane purchasing the collection, noting that it is valued at £100.
