De Jussieu presents a short treatise on ‘le Cacao et le sucre’, authored by a German physician called Block. He requests news from Sloane.
Antoine de Jussieu (1686-1758) was a French naturalist and physician who, like Sloane, studied at Montpellier. He replaced Professor of Botany Joseph Pitton de Tournefort at the Jardin du Roi in Paris when the latter died in 1708. De Jussieu was admitted as a member of l’Academie des sciences in 1711 and was responsible for the introduction of coffee to the Antilles in 1720 (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoine_de_Jussieu).

Steigertahl thanks Sloane for the trouble he took in contenting Dr Kaempfer’s nephew. The latter wanted to published his uncle’s ‘Histoire du Japan’ in German. Steigertahl received the Philosophical Transactions and plans on sending some books with Mr Jäger or Dr Hampe. He encloses a list of the contents of the cabinet belonging to the late Abbé Schmidt, formerly a Professor at Helmstadt.
Johann Georg Steigertahl (1666-1740) was the personal physician to George I of England. He was a member of the Royal Society and secured the purchase of Engelbert Kaempfer’s collection of East Asian curiosities for Sir Hans Sloane in 1723 (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Georg_Steigerthal).

Müller is grateful for Sloane’s favours and the honour of being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. He will deliver the books to Ruysch and Seba. The former is 93 years of age. The latter is grateful for Sloane’s recognition. Müller received several letters from St Petersburg written by one Tatishchev, ‘Conseiller du College des mines’.
Gerhard Friedrich Müller (1705-1783) was a German historian and ethnologist. In 1725 he was invited to St Petersburg to establish the Imperial Academy of Sciences. From 1733 to 1743 he travelled across Siberia with other scientists collecting ethnographic information. Müller was elected fellow of the Royal Society in 1730 and a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1761 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerhard_Friedrich_Müller).

A physician from ‘Altorff’ wants his work published in the Philosophical Transactions. Kisner laments the death of John Gaspar Scheuchzer.

Steigertahl thanks Sloane for sending the latest Philosophical Transactions. He is glad Sloane saw the list of the ‘curiosities de feu Mr Kampfler’. The dried plants are expected to fetch ‘un grand prix’. Zollman is available to examine ‘l’Histoire de Japon’, which was written in German but might be translated into English. Steigertahl thinks it will be published. J.H. Kaempfer, the late Engelbert Kaempfer’s late uncle, is to provide Zollman with a price for the text. The King has been hunting and is now resting at Herrenhaus. Steigertahl hopes Princess Amalie will soon be feeling better.
